Travel Day

We are at the airport in Calgary waiting to board our first flight.  We made it to the gate at 9:25 for our 11:15 departure.  Suits me fine, but I’m sure the boys were rolling their eyes.🙄

The morning started with the first hiccup of the trip.  I got an email telling me how much the Morar Hotel was looking forward to meeting us this evening.  Noooooooo!!  After a few quick messages I was able to change our reservation to tomorrow for a small fee.  Phew!!  With that crisis averted we continued to get ready and made our way to the airport.  (Thanks for the ride, Mandy!)

On Our Way!!

We are discussing boarding strategy and movie picks for the flight now.  We’ll continue updating later on in the day.

On the bus to Glasgow now.  Our flights went smoothly with the exception of the approach into Edinburgh.  Due to an airport issue we were forced to circle for 20 minutes prior to landing.  Good thing we are all fine with going round and round…

Final Approach Flight Path

I grabbed twenty minutes of sleep on the Toronto leg, and another couple hours on the Edinburgh leg.  The boys didn’t get any sleep so far, but we’ll see how they do on the three hour bus ride from Glasgow to Fort William this afternoon.

All three eSIMs are up and running although we have yet to figure out how to text each other.🤪  We’ll work on that tonight once we get to the hotel in Morar.

That’s it for now.  We’ll make one more update at the end of the day.

Once we arrived in Glasgow we relaxed at a coffee shop for a while, then picked up our groceries and camp fuel.  Next was the Glasgow to Fort William bus leg (~3.5 hours).  As predicted we all crashed on and off for most of the ride.😴. When we arrived in Fort William we decided to find a taxi for the final leg to Morar (pronounced Mor-er, not More-are!!).  This got us in a couple hours ahead of time - bonus!!!

After some quick showers we headed down to our first Scottish dinner of the trip.  I think we had  all been looking forward to it for quite some time now.  Ben and Sam had steak and ale pie, and I had roast rump of lamb.  Nobody was disappointed!

Morar Hotel Dinner

After dinner we went down to the shore to dip our toes into the ocean as per TGOC custom.

Pre-Challenge Toe Dip

We spent another half hour wandering around, exploring the area , and enjoying the scenery.

We’ve just finished doing a gear check and repack, and are all getting ready for bed.  It’s hard to believe that day one is finally here after months of planning and discussion.  We are all very excited, but I am sure sleep is going to come easy after 24+ hours of travelling.  Our next post won’t be for four days when we hope to be in Fort William.  I will update the posts then.  Thanks for reading, and thanks for all the good wishes!!!
